Americana and Spring row QAL patterns released!

Hello QAL participants!  I emailed out the Americana QAL pattern just after midnight last night and the Spring QAL pattern at 6:10 this evening.  If you did not get them, perhaps your email did not work or I do not have your email.  Please leave me a comment with the corrected email or shoot me a message at atticw (at) hotmail (dot) com.

I am anxious to see those blocks come together and posted.

Thank you!

Quilters Garden is ready for qulting. This will just be a small quilt to display on my sewing wall.

The Quilter's Story:
We shop at the Quilt shop lane, cut out the material into pieces, pin it together

Then we sew up the strips, iron the seams and piece them together.

Last comes washing and hanging them out to dry in our lovely garden

At last we yield a very beautiful quilt to showcase .
( Of course the binding  needs to be added and then quilted.  That will come ...who knows when).

Quilter's Garden Top Complete

My last post was before I got the rows put together. It took longer than I thought, as I decided to add embellishments to the Quilts on the Line blocks. That turned out to be really fun!
I added flying birds above the clothesline. They are blue and don't show up well in the picture. I keep thinking that they are stray pieces of thread. Haha I also added Lavendar flowers at the base of the clothesline poles. The mini quilts will be added after the top is quilted. That will add a lot more color and fun to it.

The birdhouse and bird were really fun to make. Again, flowers at the bottom of the fence. I still may add some other detail to the tree blocks, but haven't done that yet. I am not sure what I want to add.
I had a hard time getting a good close-up of the rows all sewn together, to I broke it into sections. I wasn't sure how I  would like putting so many different sizes of blocks together, but now that it is all put together, I love it!!

And the finished product. Well almost, anyway. I will add buttons, washers and mini quilts after it is quilted. But that may be years. My goal is to have a quilt for each of my 13 grandchildren for their High School Graduation. So far 3 have graduated and I still have 6 tops to make. This one goes to granddaughter #5, who is 10 years old now. They still need to be quilted, but I still have time.
This has been a really fun project. It has been fun sharing blocks will all of you. I hope you have all enjoyed it as much as I have. Thank you for your beautiful blocks. They have really added to the fun of this quilt. And thanks especially to Deana for her talents which you are so willing to share with us---the design, the swaps, the many hours of work it has created for you, and for keeping us all on track.

Participant list in the sidebar and buttons are ready!

Hello QAL participants!  I just wanted you to know that I have made lists on the right sidebar with your names.  If your name is not there or is on the wrong list, please let me know.  Also,  if your name says there is no email address, please send it to me at  atticw(at)hotmail(dot)com.

In the next few days I will be sending out blogger invitations.  Please accept it so you can post photos of your finished blocks at this website.  If you don't know how, I will be happy to assist you.  If you prefer to email a photo to me and have me post for you, that will be fine as well.  A photo of your finished block is required to get each month's pattern for free.

Also, I have made buttons for you to post on your blogs.  I would love it if you would do that and link back here.

I have the Americana pattern ready and will get started on the Spring tomorrow.  Watch for an email on July 1st with the pattern (if I have your email address).

Thanks SO MUCH!

Deana

New Row QALs ready to launch for July!

July will be here before you know it and with it comes some new free QALs.  You can do one or all, or just follow along.

First off is my new Fort Worth Fabric Studio QAL.  It does not have a name yet so I am open to ideas.  I would LOVE to hear your suggestions - just leave me a comment.

This quilt will be a 5 month FREE QAL that will launch from Fort Worth Fabric Studio's blog.  The fabric is expected to arrive in early July and then I will need time to make the quilt top.  I am estimating this QAL will launch either the end of July or early August.  Please check back later for details.

This quilt is 87" x 94" (Queen).  There are NO CURVES although it may look like there are.  Most of the piecing is simple rotary methods and strip sewing, but there is a small amount of paper piecing.

A few weeks back I presented my three finished row quilts to blog quilters for votes on which one they wanted to do.  It was a near even split between the three, but the Spring Row Quilt won over the Americana quilt by only one vote.  The Autumn Quilt was very close behind.  So, blogland, you have chosen Spring and Americana.  I will be offering both.

Spring Row Quilt AND Americana Row Quilt

On July 1st I will launch the free Spring Row Quilt QAL and free Americana Row Quilt QAL.  The Spring quilt will go for 7 months while the Americana Quilt will run for 8 months.

Please specify which quilt you are participating in or both.  If you do both, you will be required to make one block for EACH quilt each month, otherwise, just make one block for the row quilt you are participating in.

Rules:

1.  Participants will be required to make at least one block from the pattern each month.

2.  Participants will need to post a picture of the finished block to my DODmystery blog OR email me a picture to post.

3.  If a block is made by midnight the last day of the month, the participant will get the next month's pattern for free.  If not, they will have an unfinished quilt or will have to purchase the pattern in my Craftsy or Etsy shop.  All patterns will be emailed in pdf format.

4.  Late comers will be welcome, but they will have to purchase any patterns they have missed.  The pattern is free ONLY for the month it is hosted.

SPECIAL NOTE:  I reserve the right to change some of the rows from the photos shown.  Some rows may be replaced with patterns that I feel are cuter or simpler to make.  There are a couple that need some improvements.

Don't care for row quilts?  That is ok.  You are only required to make the month's block.  You can do anything with it you wish.

That's it!  This time we are not swapping, so make your quilt any colors you want.

If you previously left a comment stating you want to participate, I will send you an email inquiring as to which quilt (or both) you want to make.  If you are a no-reply blogger, please leave a comment with your email address.

My borders are on

I was away on retreat for 4 days and got to work on my quilt.
I laid out the centre and the borders then calculated the space I had left. I needed to add a 3.25" smashing border all the way around.
HERE IT IS. I love it....

I like them all as well. I think I would choose the Americana one, though, if I have to choose. But I really like those turkeys in the fall quilt and the houses and butterflies in the Spring one...

New FREE row QAL starting in July!

Hello to all of my Quilter's Garden friends in blogland!  Thank you for all of your comments, encouragement, and support this past year!

The Quilter's Garden Mystery Row project was such a success that I am going to host another one that is similar.  This time it won't be much of a mystery.  I need to recreate pdf patterns for the three row quilts shown below and need your encouragement to get them done.  Let me know if you are interested in making one of them and which one or which ones (plural) you want to make.  Just leave a comment or shoot me an email.  I will choose the group "favorite" or possibly two of them for the FREE QAL.

Rules:

1.  Participants will be required to make at least one block from the pattern each month.

2.  Participants will have to post a picture of the finished block to this blog OR email me a picture for me to post for them.

3.  If a block is made by midnight the last day of the month, the participant will get the next month's pattern for free.  If not, they will have an unfinished quilt or will have to purchase the pattern in my Craftsy or Etsy shop.

That's it!  This time we are not swapping, so make your quilt any colors you want.

last block has arrived and quilt top is done

I have planned my quilt. It is always hard when you participate in a block swap. They don't always measure the same. I love the challenge of working around this.
I didn't do the required amount of blocks that Deana has done for her row by row quilt..
I have trimmed and played, measured and added.... This is the results so far......
The top section

The middle section waiting on my last block to come in the mail

 The bottom section
.

Look at all those beautiful quilts that are hanging.
See where I have filled some spaces with the bonus half square triangles. They were used to make it all up to size. Now I have to add a one inch strip all the way around and my border blocks hopefully will fit. I'm not sure yet. It still has to be laid out.
I am happy with it so far especially because I have put them together so soon.
Well, my last block has arrived from Denise.....

So I have trimmed it to fit in the middle row..

And here it is... The top is together. I only have to get the borders sewn on...

Quilts in the garden blocks received. Border blocks made. Possible layout

It has been great over the last few months working on these fun blocks.
This block has come all the way from Kathi in Alaska.... The quilt on the fence is so cute
Thankyou Kathi
And this one is from Linda T. It's a bit different with the blue sky but it is still pretty. The quilt is so sweet.

I have managed to make all 26 of my border blocks for this months finish....
Is anyone going to be swapping these blocks this month...
,

And I even made the bonus Half square triangles too.....

So I had a play with the layout of the blocks. This was a row by row quilt but I am not doing mine in rows. Mine will look a bit busier and come out a completely different size. Oh the challenge.
I will fill in the spaces with the half square triangles and trim some blocks to make them all fit in.
This is what I have so far....

The empty space is for the one  I am still waiting on. A tree block is to come from Denise.

Just like to say that another fence and quilt block has made it across the waters.
From Alaska to Australia.. What a trip....
Kathi, Thankyou so much. I love your block. The quilt is amazing. I can't wait to start putting all these blocks together.......
This has been so much fun....

Thank you Jo!

I received my tree block with the little quilt from Jo in Australia. I love it. Those clothespins (or pegs as you call them) are so darling and the tiniest I have ever seen! Thank you so much Jo.

Block Received!

Today I received a fun little package in my mail box.  Lorri, your block is lovely.  How did you ever sew those teeny, tiny little blocks together to make the quilt?  Thank you too for the beautiful crocheted potholder.  You are so very thoughtful.  Enjoy your Spring!

Cathy - Block Sent and Received

Hi everyone! I cannot believe we're about done. I've had so much fun, I hate for it to end.  I received my block from Betty in the mail yesterday (on the left).  It's so pretty!  It will look perfect in my quilt.

Block received

Yesterday I received my block in the mail. It came from Linda Th in Texas, rather than Denise. The blocks were marked wrong when they were posted, but she said they decided to send the blocks that were pictured. THANK YOU Linda. I love it, and the mini quilt is just darling.
Goal for today, get my rows set! I have my 26 chevrons made, but can't sew them together until I have the rows together.

Block recieved and sent

I received the block from Daryl today.  I loved your choice of tree material.  Thanks.
I also sent my block to Vickie in Salina.  Sorry I forgot about it and started on another project.

fence block sent to TX

I mailed my block to Cathy on Monday , the 6th)  Post Office said it should get there by Thursday.

I received my tree block from Ann.  It is so nicely done.  She left extra embroidery thread on edge of block so I can continue it over the next block.   Nice.

Block sent and block received!

I mailed my block to Linda on Friday, April 3rd and received a very nice block from Trudie and she enclosed the nicest purse that she made. It was such a surprise and the colors match the ones we used in the swap. Thank you Trudie. So, so, so sweet of you.

Lyn, Daryl & Denise please have some patience. I know it is hard to wait but they will get to you.

Block is on it's way to Phyllis in Utah

I mailed the block Saturday Phyllis. You should get it early in the week.

Block Sent

On my way out of town yesterday, I dropped Betty's block in the mail. It should be there by Monday.

Wednesday, April 1, 2015

Thank you!

This has been my first blog block swap and it has been very fun. I put Jo's block in the mail today. It is traveling from Alaska to Australia, from one end of the earth to the other.

"Quilts in the Garden" blocks ready to swap April 1st!

We made it!  Thank you ladies for a wonderful swap group! We are also, sadly, coming to a near close of the Quilter's Garden Mystery Row Swap.  I thank all of you wonderful ladies for supporting this project!  You have been a wonderful, fun, and reliable group.

The border pattern will be released today or tomorrow with finishing instructions.  There will be a border swap on the first of May for those who want to participate, but it won't be required because you will all have the final pattern.

I do plan to do another Mystery Row Project that will be very similar to this one.  It likely won't start until late summer.  If anyone is interested please let me know through email or a comment.  Just like last time, I am asking for theme ideas, so please share your ideas even if you don't want to join again.

One more thing,  this blog will remain open for you to show us your finished or progressing Quilter's Garden projects.  Remember, it is your quilt and you can put it together any way you wish.  Please let us see what you did with the patterns and your blocks.

Here is the random sample sequence list:

Here is the swap list that matches it.  Tracy drew her own name so I did a random draw to determine who to switch her with.  The switch is indicated in yellow highlights.

Here are the blocks.
