I was lucky enough to go on a 4 day retreat with 32 ladies...
I worked on these 2 row SALs.....
I have changed the sizes of the quilts to suit me sending them off to our own AUSSIE HEROES who are currently on deployment......
They are only to measure 42" x 72". So I didn't add the borders even though I love the Americana one the best. Maybe next quilt I can make it fit....
I changed the Americana to an Australiana quilt. The Spring quilt is similar.....
Anyway here they are now waiting to be quilted..
Thanks Deana for the patterns...

I actually got them done in time..
I finally had some time to do some sewing for me. All day. It was so good.
I am doing my quilt a little bit skinner than the pattern so there will be some differences when it is finished... Oh we are so close....

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
I hope everyone is happy celebrating New Year's Eve and day.
Not much has been happening on here this month. I hope everyone has been busy doing some stitching as well as festivities. Can't wait for Deana to give us the next step...

LIBERTY STAR & UMBRELLA's are done
I'm on top of my sewing now. I feel good that I have finished my rows for the 2 SAL's.
Here are my umbrellas all complete. Make sure you read all the directions first... It took a while to sort out... But they are done.... I also used Ric Rac for the handles.
Now for the Liberty Stars...
I added fun male pictures for the centres. It just adds a little bit more of interest...

November block 1 done
I've been working all evening on getting this large star block done. After reading all the instructions first I found out that there is a 3D element to it. I have done something similar to it before so I wanted to get stuck into it now... Well it's now 11.30pm and my block is done.
I love it... I think it has worked out ok... I'm not sure if I will add the extra border top and bottom. I might leave it a rectangle until I see what fits my size better.

Oh boy. What a day!!!!
I know it is a day late but I did get there.
I managed to come home a day early from a business/holiday week away.
So what's a girl to do. SEW SEW SEW.
I did the rest of my Freedom Street.
Here is my row for October.
Now, I have laid out all my blocks in the Americana AUSTRALIANA quilt.
I know I have some more piecing to do when I get to the end. I will make them fit my measurements somehow.
Here is my Spring Garden rows all together
Oh looking at the time for your part of the world I think it is still October JUST.......

I have done some....
Well there have been some great blocks and rows done so far this month. Good on everyone that is participating.
I love the inspiration and reminder to get mine done too.
I have had a busy month. Been sick, grandsons birthday ( of course I made a quilt ), other sewing, holidays and catching up with my rows.....
As I keep saying, I am altering my row width to suit the Aussie Hero quilts I make which are only 42" wide.... So some adjustments are needed.
Here is my churn dash and watering cans..
I love the red flowers and am happy with this row. It went together well.....
Then I started on my Freedom Street.
My Chapel is done.
I do hope to get the school house and cemetery made. I think they will make it up enough to fit my width... Not sure if I can squeeze it in though...

BETSY SUE & PICKET FENCE is DONE
I have worked very hard today cutting and piecing.. I still need to do all the hand stitching but that will happen later..
I made only 2 Betsy Sues with the Australian flag. I still need to add a frame around the flag. I only did 2 because my quilt isn't going to be as wide. I will do all the calculations and add in places if I need to. I kept with the red, white and blue. Still sticking with a similar theme to you all.
Next up was the picket fence. Wow it is a big fence. I thought I had enough of one fabric but didn't. Then I added a lighter fabric to finish off. That hasn't really worked too well. It blends too much with the fence. I will need to do a but of outline stitching to help it stand out. I have added some climbing roses which I will raw edge appliqué. I've even added a bird house. It is cute...
I then went back to last months Spring SAL and joined up the houses. I used the left over picket fences to join them and added some trees, a dog and then the lines for the quilts.. Hand stitching needs to be done but at least the row is now together...
Until next month.
Thanks Deana. Hope you life at the moment is travelling ok....

Butterflies and Sunbonnet Sue
Well that was a little bit challenging. I'm not sure if I was not concentrating, cut the wrong sizes or just messed up but I had trouble making things fit.,I know it doesn't help when you are changing the width of the rows. I got there in the end.....
I prepared this row over a few days and I will be taking it with me to my NOTY quilt group for a day of hand stitching. Yep all ready to go and I got it finished....
I'm really happy with it.
Now I have to go and add to the houses row to match this width. I have made the quilts for on the line as well.....

Tweet tweet tweet
I have made the birdhouse blocks for the next row of TWEET TWEET TWEET. I am not joking them yet because I am not sure what size the left compass block measures. I am not making the same size quilt so I will assemble it later and work out the spacer blocks...
The colour is not showing up too well.
I have started on the butterflies and Sue blocks. They are taking longer than expected.

House 2 & 3
I have stitched house number 2 & 3..
No 2....
I still have to blanket stitch the windows and the roof. My window fabrics has a pin tuck in it so there is no need for me to stitch on them

House no 3...
It looks pretty dull at the moment but I think I will have to add some embellishing of flowers in the window boxes, a door knob and maybe some lace work on the roof line...
Boy there was a lot of little pieces in this one but very easy to put together. Just lay them all out and it will be ok...

Row 1 & 2 done with a twist
This is supposed to be an Americana quilt but for me being an Aussie I thought I would change it a little. I am changing the size to suit our Aussie Hero quilts. I think I might donate it. The size finishes at 42" x 72". It's to fit their bunks while on deployment..
Row 1 has 5 great looking stars. I did each one a different background..
Row 2...... I found some Aussie flag fabric, cut it up and made it fit

My borders are on
I was away on retreat for 4 days and got to work on my quilt.
I laid out the centre and the borders then calculated the space I had left. I needed to add a 3.25" smashing border all the way around.
HERE IT IS. I love it....

last block has arrived and quilt top is done
I have planned my quilt. It is always hard when you participate in a block swap. They don't always measure the same. I love the challenge of working around this.
I didn't do the required amount of blocks that Deana has done for her row by row quilt..
I have trimmed and played, measured and added.... This is the results so far......

The top section
Look at all those beautiful quilts that are hanging.
See where I have filled some spaces with the bonus half square triangles. They were used to make it all up to size. Now I have to add a one inch strip all the way around and my border blocks hopefully will fit. I'm not sure yet. It still has to be laid out.
I am happy with it so far especially because I have put them together so soon.
Well, my last block has arrived from Denise.....
So I have trimmed it to fit in the middle row..
And here it is... The top is together. I only have to get the borders sewn on...

Quilts in the garden blocks received. Border blocks made. Possible layout
It has been great over the last few months working on these fun blocks.
This block has come all the way from Kathi in Alaska.... The quilt on the fence is so cute

Thankyou Kathi
And this one is from Linda T. It's a bit different with the blue sky but it is still pretty. The quilt is so sweet.

I have managed to make all 26 of my border blocks for this months finish....
Is anyone going to be swapping these blocks this month...
So I had a play with the layout of the blocks. This was a row by row quilt but I am not doing mine in rows. Mine will look a bit busier and come out a completely different size. Oh the challenge.
I will fill in the spaces with the half square triangles and trim some blocks to make them all fit in.
This is what I have so far....
The empty space is for the one I am still waiting on. A tree block is to come from Denise.

Blocks have set sail
After my busy 3 weeks I have finally got myself together and put my blocks in the mail.
I have really enjoyed making these blocks and am so looking forward to the ones I will receive. It is great to see all the different fabrics used and then to make them all work together.
Lyn, Daryl & Denise please have some patience. I know it is hard to wait but they will get to you.

A post with photos
my last 2 blocks for this month are done.
I made the quilts using orphan blocks from my cupboard. I attached the quilts with real wooden pegs on to a twisted cord line. Very cute.
