Yeah! :) Americana Row 2 finally squared away

I had the hardest time figuring out what I wanted to use for my background on row 2 until my eye glanced across the tub holding some of my hubby's older Air Force uniforms. (I'm pulling all my stuff from stash, except that I did need to buy some red & white stripe fabric). His uniforms are PERFECT for this!

And yes, he knows I harvested a BDU shirt for this.  :)

Using that necessitated some adjusted construction strategies. First I needed to resolve the issue with poor value difference on the hearts. They just melted into the cammies. So I edged all the pieces with a taupe plaid. Second, that stuff is like sewing with duck cloth canvas almost, so I appliqued the hearts onto whole blocks rather than piecing background around them. I turned the edges under and blanket stitched them on. No need for stabilizer with BDUs as the background.

Now for the fun of bin-diving for bird house scraps! - I really do love that. Not so much the clean-up afterward. . .

row 2 completed

I was on a roll today.  Got row 2 all done.  A close up of one of the hearts.  I like the navy fabric with the works.   I don't know if I can face making the whole row of fireworks blocks.  I have made 1 of them.   My congratulations to all of you who have made a whole row of them!

Marian's Spring House Blocks and Americana Row

Boy Oh Boy, I hope I'm doing this right. I've never made an actual post to Blogger before.. Being a wordpress gal, I'm very use to that, so this is brand new to me.

This is my Americana Row

I love love love how this row turned out.. It is the complete row, but my space is somewhat limited, so I just folded it up enough to show parts of the row.

Village House 1

This definitely needs something in the window sills, so I'll be working on some embroidery for that soon, otherwise, this block looks better in real life than it does the picture.

Village House 2
Tis weird, I had stabilizer behind the window on my door here, but I think I shouldn't have used such a heavy one, it gets a little crinkly in the stitching when you tear the stabilizer away. I did use the triple stitch tho also on my machine to make the lines in the window part of the door.

Village House 3

I plan to embroider something in the windows, maybe a vase with flowers or a lamp perhaps.

Deb's Americana Blocks

Deb has made a  block in each Americana row.

Sue's "Colors of Liberty"

Sue found time to get a block done.

Kris -- Americana 1 & 2

Hi all!  I am a late addition to the QAL, but just could not resist.  What a wonderful pattern.  Thanks so much for including me.

I managed to get one of each block made, but will get on track in August, I hope.  I even got excited and made an extra flag.  WooHoo!

Here is part of my row. I was afraid I wasn't going to get it done this time around as I have had an infection in my finger that has really cramped my style. But, it is almost better (6 weeks later) and with a little Motrin... I know one of my stripes is going the wrong direction, but when you use up scraps, that sometimes happens. :-)

Rina's Americana Block

Rina has completed a "Colors of Liberty" block. It looks great!

Americana Row - DONE !!!

Well, it's taken the whole month, but I've finished the row.

You'll have to excuse the wrinkles on the unmade bed, it was the only place big enough to show the whole row.

Once I got my fabric choices made the row went together beautifully. I'm very happy with it.

I just wanted to let everyone who has posted know that all of your rows are beautiful. I don't get a chance to comment on everyone's postings.

Thanks Deana :)

Americana rows 1 & 2 complete

I have my rows complete. I still have the love/hate relationship with paper piecing, but I still love the finished product. I am doing a throw size quilt, so no spacers between the stars and only 4 sets of flag/hearts.
As I said before, the fabric is some I have collected over the past several years, and some is left over from other projects, so there is a big variety of pieces. Some of it I got before I learned to appreciate the quality of fabrics, and I can definitely feel the difference while working with it.

I finished one row of the Americana quilt. I couldn't fit it all in one frame, so here's most of it
It was very fun to make

Beryl has made some blocks.

Beryl has completed a block in each Americana row.

Flag Salute

No stars yet, but here is my Flag/Heart Row. Yes, I know there's a backward flag, and I know 4 of the hearts are not quite right. That's okay with me. It is what it is.
I don't know about the stars, but I'll give one a shot.

Americana QAL: first block done

Hello everyone!

This is my first time joining a QAL like this! I am very excited!

I am a person that cannot follow the rules, I have to put my own twist in everything... so even if I decided to join, I won't make the row quilt, but I will set the block in some other ways (don't know how yet), but I wanted to use this QAL as an excuse to use up some orphan blocks I had in my closet for quite a while and never found a project for them... until now!

So I set the first blocks in a "square" setting and my block turned up like this!

I was so excited to finish it up, that I chopped few points here and there... but I submitted my block to the careful inspection of my fellow sewing helper (Pumpkin) that, after some consideration said:

"Yes, the block is just great as it is!
It makes a great little blanket,
now let me continue my nap" :)

Looking forward to see all your wonderful and inspiring creations!!

Row 1 & 2 done with a twist

This is supposed to be an Americana quilt but for me being an Aussie I thought I would change it a little. I am changing the size to suit our Aussie Hero quilts. I think I might donate it. The size finishes at 42"  x  72". It's to fit their bunks while on deployment..
Row 1 has 5 great looking stars. I did each one a different background..
Boy did these stars take some time to make but I think they have turned out pretty good..

Row 2...... I found some Aussie flag fabric, cut it up and made it fit

Lyn E. Row #2 Done

Lyn E. has completed her "Colors of Liberty" row.  The row is laying on the back of a couch, hence the curvy row.

Lyn M has a block in each row done.

Lyn M. has completed a block in each row.  She is doing both QALs.  They look wonderful!

She has completed house #1 in the Spring Row Quilt, but the photo would not fully load for some reason.  I can see from the thumbnail that is is done very well in blues.

American rows 1 and 2

Here are the first two rows.  The 5 upper stars blocks are not sewn together yet.
sorry, I can't get the picture to go larger and I don't have time to keep playing with it.
