Cheryl's Quilt Shop blocks finished

I made 2 quilt shop blocks, one to trade, one to keep.  Both blocks were made on my 1959 Singer Spartan hand crank.

I've made all my other blocks on this same machine, but, I had been using the motor on the machine instead of the hand crank.  It's much more fun to sew with the hand crank instead of the motor.

Notice the vintage sewing machines in the window quilt blocks.  If I ever have a quilt shop, it will have LOTS of my vintage sewing machines in the shop, too.

Cheryl's December Exchange blocks

Talk about just getting in under the wire....  I just finished my December exchange blocks.  December is a crazy busy month, then, when Christmas was over, I just couldn't get my mojo going to sew anything.  I did start these in December.  Thanks for extending the deadline.  Here are my 2 blocks to exchange.  I'm not keeping either of these, since, I can always make more.  I didn't do the 'alternate' blocks, since I used striped fabrics, and, I didn't think the stripes as the background fabric would look good, since they  would be going all different directions.  Don't worry, I didn't waste the extra triangles, I just can't show what I'm doing with them yet.

I still need to sew the buttons on, but, that won't take very long.  It gives me an excuse to watch a movie with hubby, later.

Cheryl's blocks

I made 2 blocks this month.  I wasn't sure I was going to find time to finish them (too many gifts still not finished for Christmas).

This is the block I'm keeping.

and this is the block I'm swapping.

Talk about last minute.  Next month may be the same way, since I'm losing my sewing room for about a week.

Thanks Liz!  Sorry I didn't post sooner.  I have a new computer, and, I can't load pictures on it (yet, hopefully).  I have to keep loading pictures on the old computer.

Cheryl's blocks

I made one block for the exchange.

I made 4 blocks for myself.

I didn't use the washers for my blocks.  I appliqued silver material for the blades, instead.  I was thinking that the washers would make a wall hanging too heavy.

Cheryl's September blocks

I made 2 sewing machine #2 blocks.  One for me, and one for the swap.

These machines resemble some of the vintage sewing machines that are in my collection.

I'll show more of the machines on my own blog.

Here is the block I made for the swap.

And here is the block I made for me.  I own an Eldridge chain stitch (non working).

Introduction from Cheryl

Hi I'm Cheryl from Cheryl's Teapots2Quilting.  I'm a misplaced Texan, living in Illinois.  I am married (27 years later this month) and have 2 sons, one living in Alaska.  I've been quilting since 2001, and started teaching beginning quilting at my church this year.  I also collect, and USE vintage sewing machines.  I have 5 treadles, and WAY too many other machines.  I'm not allowed to count how many, or else hubby says I can't collect any more machines.

I have participated in many block exchanges, but, I've never done a mystery quilt before.  I need to SEE what I'm making, not just follow directions.  This mystery lets me SEE what we are making.

I sew lots of charity quilts and tops.  Mainly for Quilts of Valor.  I'm just learning machine quilting (straight line, not free motion) and have hand quilted most of my quilts in the past (love it, but, it takes way too long to get anything finished).
