Hello - I am Carrie of crickets studio and I just found this mystery tonight! My theme is "scrappy anything" because I love samplers. and trying new techniques. Having a stash of fabrics that needs serious reducing is where the scrappy part comes in. Also, I find scrappy quilts so warm and snuggly.
Have to catch up...can't wait to see everyone's quilts develop!

Late comer: Stephanie
Hello! My name is Stephanie, and I am from Salt lake, Utah. Apparently i am the youngest participant. So... wohoo for me! I have just recently started quilting seriously, and my Aunts Ann, Marie, and Dorine (the daughters of Dorinda) invited me to join in on the fun! And, because I am out of school for a few days, I decided to hurry up and get my first block done before I had too many other things to do. So here it is...
I am doing a forest theme, all out of scraps from my mom's fabric closet. I know the trees are not very original, but I really did enjoy making them. I made my flying geese, and then applique'd the background on to them. I decided that would be my original bit for this block. I tend to pull out odd things like that freqently.

Granny Annie's Garden Mystery:
Hi - my name is annmarie!!! I learned about this mystery on Ann Marie's blog (Star in a Star Mystery) where I have been lurking for quite some time! My real spelling is also Ann Marie but for all quilty purposes I use annmarie. I see there is also an Ann T. and my last name starts with T also. Amazing that 3 Ann's ended up here.
I live in Rhinelander Wisconsin whick is quite far north - Brrrrrrrrrrr! We have LOTS of snow right now. I live on a lake in the country with my hubby & 14 yo dog, Buzzy. My only child & his wife live right down the road which is wonderful! No grandchildren, boo hoo! but I am a surrogate granny to a friend's twins whose real granny is far away in California so I get my baby fix with the 2 princesses - they just turned one.
So that is where the name of my mystery comes from - at the babies' house I am known as Granny Annie. Besides quilting I have many flower gardens & a veggie garden too.
I love the names of all the Mysteries & look forward to watching the themes develop. What fun!!!

Kay in NJ
I, too, learned about this mystery from Carmen. She gets lots of us into trouble ;-) My theme will be Green is the Thing! I've been "green" long before it became the thing to do - been recycling since the early 60's when we had to actually cart our newspapers, bottles and cans to a big collection container 20 miles away from where we lived. I hope it's OK that I am "blogless".

(Kay left the above comment on the original mystery post. I am making it into a post so others can read it (hope it is ok).

Tropical beach
Hi, everyone. I just joined and am in the process of trying to figure out how this works so please bear with me. My theme for this mystery is Tropical Beach. Bright colors and beachy blocks. I'm 53 years old, married with a wonderful 14 year old son. We bought a townhouse last month and am still getting unpacked and organized. My sewing area is slightly unusable at the moment. But hope to get it ready to use very soon. I'm looking forward to this unusual mystery and can't wait to get started. Hope I can keep up. LOL

Meet Mary
I just received an updated email from a participant who is listed in the sidebar but hasn't accepted the invitation to the blog. She will be participating ONLY through email to me. I will try to keep her progress updated on the blog as far as she approves it.
Mary's theme is "Joy". Isn't that wonderful?

The above post is mine (she is referring to her comment on the Dorinda Invitation Post), using my husband's gmail address. I just got my own, so I will re-post. I live in Louisville, got married 12/31. I love mysteries, paper-piecing and just about everything else quilt-related! I chose Jimmy Buffett as my theme. I love anything Jimmy or beach-related! Been wanting to make a beachy quilt, so here is my chance.

scrappy stash forest.....
when i tried to convince myself that NO!!! i was NOT going to be doing yet another project that would probably never get finished, and that betty and carmen could just go on ahead and have their fun with their 12 inch starter block, i thought i had been VERY convincing to myself.....then, i fell asleep and dreamt of my own 12 inch starter block with the nice flying geese pine trees on the right, with some smaller ones on the left, with some beautiful stitching of a nice scripture in the middle--the nice thing about dreams is that they can be as detailed and as un-realistic as we want LOL so, first thing this morning i signed up, with my theme of scrapy stash forest....my first block with the geese trees (that will NOT be as amazing as my dreams was-sarn!) may be the only tree on it, because i tend to get side-tracked somewhat, and we may not be able to see the forest thru the tree, but it WILL be scrappy and stashy ;o)
so, as you can see, i hate to use capitals, unless i am using them to emphasize a word, which i ALWAYS do....and i just love to end the sentence with .... instead of actually just ending. the. sentence. i also write like i talk, so sometimes you have to read it a few times before you get the hang of what on earth i am talking about!
i met carmen and betty in a great on-line group and they introduced me to this BOM and boy howdy, i am gonna just LOVE this. i have a little problem with sent out round robins so this is like that, but I have the control! not that i am usually a control freak, i just know what i like LOL and, i can't have a blog post without a picture--this is also a stay at home round robin that a wonderful lady named tara kos designed. we were to start with a middle block...then, she added round after round...and, because she knows that i like applique, she left me lots of space to add mine!!!! oak leaves and acorns--i LOVE them!!! then, i added the words of the fruits of the spirit, but am re-working them because you can't see the original well enough....perhaps one day i will actually get it done and quilted!!!
i am a chirstian, a wife of 30 years, and mother of 11 kids....from 30 down to 9. 6 of them are still in the home--4 teen girls, a hormonal 6th grade boy and a sweet 3rd grade boy. life is busy and challenging to say the least!!! i am getting my 7th grandchild this friday!!! can't wait for that!!! we also have 5 dogs and a bird....we live in southern california in the mojave desert, so we have extremes of weather--last week the kids had 2 snow days off from school...in the summer we can get to 115 degrees....all in all a nice place to live if you don't mind brown....i miss the mountains and green...in my heart i live in ireland ;o)
i love to read and knit and quilt....am pretty able at most things i try my hand at, but i just can't seem to finish projects! this year i vowed that i would be VERY selective as to what i would start, and am thrilled that i get to be part of your group here and to do this along with you. I have set goals of making more finishes this year--and of more blogging with pictures--this little mystery will also help achieve that goal too!! it must have been meant to be--right??!! so, can still work on the old things, start a few new ones, have the fresh challenge of this little mystery, and get to blog about it too....life doesn't get much better than that!

Hi Everyone!

In the way of an introduction I will start off by saying my name is Carmen Thomas and I hale from the great Northernmost state of Alaska! My family and I transplanted ourselves to Soldotna, Alaska in the deep winter of 2000 from northern Illinois, Chicagoland to be exact. Coming from the hustle and bustle of city life to rural small town living here was quite the adjustment but I must tell you we have not regretted the move in the slightest. It is beautiful here and I now have 2 DDILs and 4 grandchildren living in the same town that I can see everyday.
I have been quilting for quite a spell and it never ceases to amaze me that I find new things to learn all the time :) I have been designing my own patterns for years as well as sewing others designs. Mysteries are just the greatest way to get know other quilters out here in cyberland and a constant source of enjoyment. It has been a while since I have had a mystery so grab me that I could not resist! This mystery is definitely one that has more than piqued my interest.
For my first step in this mystery I put my thinking cap on decided to do "Carmen's Favorite Things" and not use pink anywhere in it LOL For those who do not know me, pink has become my trademark since the birth of my first DGD, Lydia Rose. So, being in a state that often thought of as a perpetual deep freeze (which it is not), I designed a chilly little blue penguin, which I have named, Missy Chilly :) Can you spot the possibilities for the 4 flying geese? LOL I will add pics of my process and finished block in my next posting.
Thank you all for allowing me to join this fun venture! I can't wait to see what you all are doing!
Till next post, Carmen in Alaska

More From Dorine
Hello all.
As I've read other's posts, I have decided I need to say more. I am so excited to see all who have joined us from near and far for this mystery project, so I want to share more of who I am in hopes all of you will share more of yourselves as we go along.
I am the mother of four grown children with eight grandchildren. However, I lost the father of my children to cancer three years ago. I have since found a wonderful widower whom I married in September 2009 giving me a new total of 11 children and 35 grandchildren, so far. I plan to make quilts for all these grandchildren when they marry. Our oldest is turning 20 this year, so weddings are not too far in the future! The first grandchild quilt I make will be a bird quilt that my husband's deceased wife painted with fabric paints showing all the state birds and flowers. I want to quilt that one up for our oldest grandchild. I showed it to one of my new daughters-in-law and told her I wanted to quilt it for grandchild number one. She let me know that her son, grandchild, number two, also likes birds, so the mystery quilt is for him.
Here are the fabrics I have gotten so far. With my theme, I will be needing quite a few other colors.

Theme and Introduction
Hello, everyone. My name is Tamera and I live in rural North Dakota with my hubby and four children. My husband is a farmer/rancher and I am a physician, but I stay home with my kids now and I homeschool.
I am an avid quilter and most of my quilts are donation quilts.
I'm working hard to use up my HUGE stash.
My theme is Shangri La because that's the fabric line I'll be using.
I hope to get to know you all a bit as we play along together. This sounds like so much fun! I really like pushing myself to do things outside my comfort zone!

My Theme
I joined the mystery today and I am really excited about it. I have never heard of anything quite like this. I chose a "woods" theme. I have been quilting for over 30 years and have seen quilting come a long way. Just when I think there couldn't be anything new, someone comes up with an idea like this. Just two more days and we will have our first clue.

Hello from Lyn
Lyn says hello and wants to announce that her theme is "Small Town Winter". She has been in awe at the beauty of winter all around her and hopes to capture it in this quilt. She is also very excited to get started on this project.
Lyn is a daughter of Dorinda as well.
P.S. She doesn't have the internet and has asked that I post this for her.

Hi it is Ann Marie
I always love a challenge so I decided I would join in this mystery one. I had a 2 year absence from my sewing room, so in October I decided that had to change. I went up there and started clearing it out. It seems to have turned into a storage room over those 2 years, had to dust everything off too. What a mess it was up there. Well I have been working almost every day cleaning it up and clearing it out. Reorganized everything too. It was like Christmas (early) moving all my fabric from the one wall to book shelves I added to my room, I found so much I didn't even know I had or had forgotten about. As I was doing all this, I discovered TONS of scraps, I mean boxes and boxes of them (16x16x16 size) so back in October I made my New Years Resolution. To clear out all my scraps, and work mainly from my stash too. I have never been much of a scrappy quilt kinda gal, but that has changed in the past 2 months while doing other mystery quilts, and working on other challenges in blog land. I think my theme was stars in stars because I couldn't think of anything else at the time, and I knew if I didn't send off the email right then, it wouldn't have gotten done. Can't wait to see what we end up doing, and what everyone's quilts looks like when we are finished. Let the cutters and sewing machines start their mission!

Thank you for allowing me to join in the mystery. It sounds very interesting. I have chosen the theme of Scarecrows for my quilt. I have been wanting to make a scarecrow quilt but couldn't decide on a pattern.
I am seeing this as an opportunity to figure that out as I go along and to use up some of my stash.

Its me Felicity
I am so excited to be apart of this quilt experience. I am a very blessed mother of two gorgious boys. Brody and Payson are my life. My husband Kit is my knight in shining armour. Quilting was introduced to me by my Mother-in-law Lyn and my Sister-in-law Deana and well lets just say its one of my pations and is also very addicting.
Anyways, I decided to make a African themed quilt for my father Lance Jacob who served a mission in South Africa. Lets get sewing! Horrah for Quilting!

Tracy....I'm up for a good mystery!
Hi, I'm Tracy a sister and daughter to the Dorinda group. I did not participate in the Dorinda project, but I was a closer follower. I have seen some of the quilts first hand and I'm amazed with the work and dedication each quilt took. What a great way to link the past to the present!
I am from Idaho. I'm happily married to my high school sweetheart and we have 4 boys. Like many families, our boys are very involved in school activities and talent building arts. I will spend the next few months following wrestling matches and piano lessons. I'm glad to be a stay at home mom.
I have been quilting off and on for 4 years. I feel I'm a beginner, but Deana is a great motivater that has made me feel as if I'm more than qualified to meet the mystery quilt challenge. Deana is an amazing quilter and instructor. This will be quite enjoyable. I look forward to seeing everyones quilts develop. My theme is country, "Holiday traditions." My stashes are still growing so I get to go shopping!
