Americana part 1

Tropical Housing...

Here's House 2 done in bright and textural fabrics made by Nancy Roberts. After looking through all the fabrics in my stash, I found this selection and gave it a try. I like how the pattern calls for so little matching. The corner of the chimney and roof was about the only place that needed a bit of attention. Finally, a home for these prints that have been waiting for just the right project!

Beryl has made some blocks.

Flag Salute

No stars yet, but here is my Flag/Heart Row. Yes, I know there's a backward flag, and I know 4 of the hearts are not quite right. That's okay with me. It is what it is.

I don't know about the stars, but I'll give one a shot.

Hi there! I finished all my Row 1 blocks, and have plenty of the background scraps left for when it'll be time to assemble things. 

P.S. - I've never, ever been in a group with so many of us Lyn's! I'll keep going with my full-out "Lynette".    :D

Clothesline Village Row 1 is sewn together, just the finishing touches left to do.  I got the quilts done, just need to decide if they will hang from a clothes line house to house... or between trees... or over a fence.  Decisions, decisions. :)   I got a little carried away with trimming so the blue house is a little smaller.  I added a bit to the end pieces to allow for the difference.  I also mixed up House#1 and House#3 :)  Getting pictures of the row was tricky, it's too wet today to take them out back so my ironing board and printer will have to do :)

Deb's Spring Row is Complete!

Deb has completed her first Spring Row.  She has added trees between the houses and shutters to house #1.  They really make the village come alive!

Hello QAL members!  I hope you are having a bright and happy July.  

I have been wanting to make up a sample of a couple of the house blocks in the Spring Row Quilt because they are new to the pattern.  Since I have a Buggy Barn Americana quilt that needs 7 more blocks, I thought I would randomly throw in some blocks.   This wild little Americana house will go in that quilt.  I think the fabrics are fitting for a Buggy Barn.  I had to add a strip to the side to make it the right size for that quilt.

I hope to see more of you post the second half of the month.  We have about 14 days left.

House 2 & 3

I have stitched house number 2 & 3..
No 2....
I still have to blanket stitch the windows and the roof. My window fabrics has a pin tuck in it so there is no need for me to stitch on them

House no 3...

It looks pretty dull at the moment but I think I will have to add some embellishing of flowers in the window boxes, a door knob and maybe some lace work on the roof line...

Boy there was a lot of little pieces in this one but very easy to put together. Just lay them all out and it will be ok...

House # 2

My nine year old granddaughter picked the colours for the house. I wanted to go with either a gray archway or a tan/beige, but my granddaughter wanted the eye catching green. What's a grandma to do but give in.

Americana QAL: first block done

Hello everyone! 

This is my first time joining a QAL like this! I am very excited!

I am a person that cannot follow the rules, I have to put my own twist in everything... so even if I decided to join, I won't make the row quilt, but I will set the block in some other ways (don't know how yet), but I wanted to use this QAL as an excuse to use up some orphan blocks I had in my closet for quite a while and never found a project for them... until now!

So I set the first blocks in a "square" setting and my block turned up like this!

I was so excited to finish it up, that I chopped few points here and there... but I submitted my block to the careful inspection of my fellow sewing helper (Pumpkin) that, after some consideration said:

 "Yes, the block is just great as it is!
It makes a great little blanket,
now let me continue my nap" :)

Row 1 & 2 done with a twist

This is supposed to be an Americana quilt but for me being an Aussie I thought I would change it a little. I am changing the size to suit our Aussie Hero quilts. I think I might donate it. The size finishes at 42"  x  72". It's to fit their bunks while on deployment..
Row 1 has 5 great looking stars. I did each one a different background..

Boy did these stars take some time to make but I think they have turned out pretty good..

Row 2...... I found some Aussie flag fabric, cut it up and made it fit

Lyn E. Row #2 Done

Lyn E. has completed her "Colors of Liberty" row.  The row is laying on the back of a couch, hence the curvy row.

Lyn M has a block in each row done.

Lyn M. has completed a block in each row.  She is doing both QALs.  They look wonderful!

She has completed house #1 in the Spring Row Quilt, but the photo would not fully load for some reason.  I can see from the thumbnail that is is done very well in blues.

Judi's Fireworks Block

I was looking for some sparkle for my fireworks block and I decided to use some lame fabrics. Now I'm wondering how it will quilt up or wash over time. Does anyone know? Maybe I need to experiment. Well here's one of them.

Lynette's first Fireworks Block

I love this fireworks block pattern. Very fun! I'm doing this row out of my small-scraps bin, so it takes time since I'm not cutting multiples of each pattern piece at once. The pool players of the family will be happy when I finish the rest of them.  ;D

Kat's Americana Row # 1

I've spent part of the last few days working on Row 1.  I did choose a different star block.  No offense to Deana's choice - I just took the easy route.  It is a Carol Doak block which I re-drew in EQ and printed off to the perfect size.  I also messed with the size, I made them 6 inches square finished. The row still measures 62-1/2 inches. I made a written note to self of that change, in case I need to account for that all to fit together later.

Without further adieu, here is the row still in 2 parts, easier to photo.

Error reported in the Spring House #1

It was brought to my attention last night that house #1 in the Spring Row Quilt was missing measurements for the windows and piece #M was wrong.

Here are the corrections:

Cut (4) windows = 2" squares

Piece M = 3 1/4" x 2 3/4" (Cut 2)

I will be emailing out these corrections, so please write them into your pattern.

I have not had a chance to make up these houses since I changed them, and plan to do so as soon as my new fabric for them arrives.  Thank you for your patience.

Kat's Americana Row # 2

Hello everyone.  I had a great time working on my row.  First let me say, Deana writes wonderful patterns. They are clear and complete with lots of photos.  I over-analyze the written word, so her photos are worth a thousand words.  Having the cutting dimensions in a chart setting is a bonus. Thanks so much, Deana.

When I reviewed the instructions, I realized I would need an organized system to keep track of the identity of each unit.  I started out with a poster board from the dollar store, covered it with batting and it stands by my machine.  This lets me place the units in position as I sew them together.

How will I keep the cut units identified?  I couldn't keep  little cut piles all over the table and remember which they were. So this over- the -door hanger has 24 clear pockets I could assign a number and/or letter.  I pinned a tag to the top of each pocket, just in case I need to change it sometime.  I tossed the units in their pocket as I cut them.  No guessing or re-measuring.  It worked well for row 2.  I don't have a door near my work area, so I hung it over my standing design wall.  I use both sides.  This back side can hold the unfinished blocks and the hanger.  If you are doing the Spring Mystery Row, the houses have  ALOT  of units.  This hanger was essential for me.

Here is my Row 2.   It took all afternoon to make this row because I had to fussy cut the red and white stripe fabric from a patriotic print that alternated 3 inch stripe squares with 3 inch blue with white stars squares.  These stripes had to be pieced back together to get the 5-1/2 inch width.

I will be doing row 1 today.  I'm sure it won't be finished in an afternoon, 8 paper pieced star blocks. I will be working those from the scrap bins.
