I have most of this new row complete. Because I am making a smaller quilt, I have only 3 bird houses. The music and stars will be completed after I get the length of the row after we do the big star and adjust the length of this row.

I have made the birdhouse blocks for the next row of TWEET TWEET TWEET. I am not joking them yet because I am not sure what size the left compass block measures. I am not making the same size quilt so I will assemble it later and work out the spacer blocks...

The colour is not showing up too well.

I have started on the butterflies and Sue blocks. They are taking longer than expected. 

Deb has completed a row and a block.

Deb finished her August Spring Row as well as an August block in the Americana quilt.

Liberty Row

Decided not to go with the birds or sunbonnet Sue, even though they are very cute.  I am planning on giving this quilt to a man.  

 I can’t decide which of the three Liberty rows I like the best.  The first row with the flag takes up the empty space to the right of the word Liberty but I think there are too many flags in that area.  I love that it is simple and not busy though.  

The second row has just stars, but seems too busy for me.  I took away a lot of stars but then it seemed too empty and needed something more. 

The last row I am still not happy with, it seems too busy also.  I plan on adding flying geese throughout the quilt. They do not necessarily need to be in this row though. 

 

I am also starting to think of the row beneath the Liberty row.  I think I may need some blank space.  For the row beneath the Liberty row, I was thinking of adding USA to the right hand side, and just having a checkerboard or maybe stripes across the rest of the row.  

 Any suggestions on improving these two rows?  I have not permanently attached anything, so everything can be moved around.

I am very excited to start a new quilt.  I would not let myself start a new quilt until I finished some older ones (12 older ones :( ). This is the first new quilt I started in 2 years! I couldn’t pass up the opportunity of a quilt a long and such a great one at that!  I am loving all the different interpretations of the flags and stars.  Thanks for the opportunity Deana!

These were so fun to sew up.  I did not put any birds in simply because I do not where I want them yet.  I am not making a queen size quilt but a small one so I only wanted three birdhouses and the sashing is not sewn in yet since I don't know how long I want the blocks sewn together to be. 

What I have seen so far in the posts have been beautiful.  Other's projects of the stars, flags, birdhouses are awesome!  thanks for sharing. 

Butterfly and Sue Row

I sure admire the  patience and talent that Deana has to come up with such a cute row for this Spring quilt along.

I ended up with my Sues facing to the right and had already made the bonnets facing the left so if anyone is interested in them I will gladly send them to you.  They already have heat and bond on the backs and are ready for applique.  Just email me at creative-notions@hotmail.com and I'll get them out in the mail asap.  

Big Oops on Butterflies and Sue!

Hay Spring People,

Vickie tried to make the Butterflies and Sue Row and found some serious measurement errors.  I scaled the 9 patch to 1 1/2" but wrote the pattern for 2".  Anyway, it has been fixed and the whole pattern re-sent out to you.  Please reprint pages 4-5 if you have already printed it.

Cathy - Stars and Flags Completed

First of all, a big thank you to Deana for being so understanding about me not getting my blog post done Friday! :)  I did get the row finished but had a bit of "sewing area" disaster and just couldn't do the post. 

That being said, here is the row I finished on Friday...

These stars were so much fun to make but they took several evenings of sewing to get done.  Saturday was spent fixing the sewing area, but Sunday I put together the flags...

They are so cute!!!  And who knew I had a big 'ol gaping hole in my stash?!?  I saw this pattern, thought, oh, no problem, went stash diving, and....no red and white stripes!  How is that even possible??  I'm tell ya....big.  Gaping.  Hole.

So this row did require a trip to the fabric store.  But now I'm set! Bring it on, Deana!  :)

row 2 completed

I was on a roll today.  Got row 2 all done.  A close up of one of the hearts.  I like the navy fabric with the works.   I don't know if I can face making the whole row of fireworks blocks.  I have made 1 of them.   My congratulations to all of you who have made a whole row of them!

Birdhouse Cuteness!

Got the pattern this morning and finished it right away so I could start on the Spring row.  I've been called a "dang over achiever" before so it won't hurt my feelings a bit if that's what you want to say.  LOL have a happy Saturday!

Spring is here!

Spring is not really hear because autumn is approaching, but the Spring pattern has been emailed.  Let me know if you should have received it but did not.

Also, if your name is not in the sidebar but should be, let me know.  I may have accidentally deleted one.  Oops sorry.

Happy sewing.  Instead of sewing, I think I'll take a nap.

Hello QAL members!

I got the Americana pattern sent out and the Spring still needs the applique' pattern sheet adjusted, scanned, and emailed.  Please be patient.  I will get it out today.

If I have missed someone, please resend a photo of your finished block or link me to the post.  The group size is large enough that it is easy for me to make errors.

My Aunt, Grandpa, and me taken in Hawaii Spring 2014.

I lost my grandpa last night.  He has been here for 91 years and was only a week shy of being 92.  It is amazing to me that there has been so much variety of experiences in his lifetime.  His life began as a child with horse and buggy and the  old Model T Ford just coming out.  He worked in the coal mines, as a shoe/boot repairman, other things, and later for Thiokol which was a government company that helped build the space shuttle.  Horse and buggy to space to modern technology is quite a lifetime of change.  He quit school at age 17 and lied about his age  so he could join the Navy.  His ship, the U.S.S. Enterprise, was in the Pacific during the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but was not in the harbor. Because he was so young when he joined, he is one, if not the very last, of his crewman to leave this earth.  At age 91 he was still pretty spry.  He walked into the temple on his own this past May to attend my daughter's wedding.

I am proud to share his blood in my veins and some of his characteristics and many wonderful memories.   I know, without a doubt, that he has loved ones on the other side welcoming him with open arms.  They are likely having a grand reunion.  While I am not ready to leave this earth,  he, his mother, and my other grandpa will be among the first that I will be anxious to see once I do leave.  I am lucky to still have both of my grandmothers here.

Life is good and I am doing well.  It was important for me to share some of my beliefs regarding death and a life beyond it with a loving God whom I refer to as my Father in Heaven.  I also know that our brother, Jesus Christ, is there too with outstretched arms of love.  Families mean everything to me and they can be together forever.   This I know.
