I did finish the second small star blocks and get that row together. I also made a substitute large star, because I know I'm not going to ever paper piece Deana's beautiful star! This one is 20" finished, so there will be some filler.
Here are all the blocks I have done, so far:
I still need to do a row 1 and finish something in the schoolhouse row, too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE
I hope everyone is happy celebrating New Year's Eve and day.
Not much has been happening on here this month. I hope everyone has been busy doing some stitching as well as festivities. Can't wait for Deana to give us the next step...

It was challenging and it took some time, but I like it despite the imperfections!
Happy Holidays everyone!!

Bumbershoot by Nancy ...
Here's my version of the Spring block for this month. There are some operator errors in that there's a little hole at the top of the umbrella. Not sure where I went wrong. But an embellishment will take care of it I'm sure! I still need to stitch down the points and add a blanket stitch to the handle. This month went by quickly!

Eagle Instead of big star
I decided to make an eagle instead of the big star for a more traditional look. I may still make the big star and place it somewhere else since I really like it.
This is where it will be placed next to the other blocks.
Have a good Thanksgiving everyone.

A star (not the big one)
This was a fun and easy block! I decided to start with this for this month because I have a ton of projects to work on for the holidays so I am not sure I will be able to get to the Big Star by the end of the month... but I will make it for sure, just need more time!
In the meantime, I enjoyed this block!

Judi's Big Star Americana
This one went together rather fast:) And it pretty much lays flat. A tip: use a washable glue stick and glue the small points down before you sew them. Holds in place easier.
Will be working on the stars and adding details to other blocks now thru Dec. Happy sewing everyone! Thanks Deana for two lovely quilts in the making:)

Judi's Spring Row
These were fun to make. Rainbows remind me of Spring.
In order to make mine look like Deana's, I had to switch the larger light and dark pieces. That way a small light goes with a larger dark triangle wedge and vise versa. Now on to the Americana:)

Lynette's Row 6 - Yankee Doodle Stars
Hi there! I got all my Yankee Doodle Stars made. Love the Air Force fabric fussy cuts in them. Perfect for Scott's retirement quilt!
I haven't decided whether I want to put spacers between them or just do the side extenders. There's plenty of time to decide, so I'm not worried. :)
I don't know what the planes are - maybe you do! Scott will tell me tonight, I'm sure:

Big Star completed
I wish I could report like others have that this wasn't as difficult to put together as it appeared. My inexperience is showing. Having said that, I do like the way it turned out. Thanks Deana for another great block. On to the spring row . . .

Yankee Doodle Star and the Big one
This was a new technique for me and I love it. So fun to do. I am still waiting to see how I will add the borders to this block. |

Yankee Doodle Star Row Complete
The row worked up really fast. I used fat quarters for the background material. I have had them for many years and did not have enough to make all 5 blocks with the same fabric. I looked for more fabric to match either pattern, but was unable to find matching for either, so I went ahead and made them different. I do like how they turned out.
The picture is a little blurred, but the lighter background has flying eagles and the darker has blue stars. The red fabric, the navy blue fabric, and the light blue fabric all have white stars.

Big Star Row Complete
The dreaded big star was not as daunting to put together as it looks on the picture. It was fun top work up, even with the paper piecing.
The sashing is narrower than the pattern calls for, and the top and bottom strips are deleted in order to keep the row smaller for the smaller size of quilt. I need to finish the embroidery on the bird house row, then the row will be complete.
Sorry, it is posted wrong. I don't know how to rotate the picture. Deana, maybe you can fix it for me. Thanks

Big Star pattern correction
Hello Ladies!
Jo has already made the blocks for this month and found some missing instruction on piece E for the big star. Template E in this pattern should also mention that you need to cut 2 E's and another 2 E's in REVERSE.....
Please add this instruction to the E template to prevent any headache. You might also run out of fabric if you do it wrong.
One more thing, the Big Star indicates that you need 3/4 yard of the dark blue background fabric. You actually need 1 yard because it takes 3" strips to make it square.
Thanks

LIBERTY STAR & UMBRELLA's are done
I'm on top of my sewing now. I feel good that I have finished my rows for the 2 SAL's.
Here are my umbrellas all complete. Make sure you read all the directions first... It took a while to sort out... But they are done.... I also used Ric Rac for the handles.
Now for the Liberty Stars...
I added fun male pictures for the centres. It just adds a little bit more of interest...

Susan: Schoolhouse
Here's my first block for the October row - yeah, running just a weeeee bit behind here.
Here’s the little known history which goes with the school house. This is a small school house on the outskirts of Los Angeles in 1927. The students were studying the solar system, obviously. When one student asked the teacher why they had to study the planets, her answer, “Space is the final frontier”, had a long-reaching impact on young Gene Roddenberry, then six years old. No, really, it’s true. I read it in Little Known History by Itotally Made-Itup.

November block 1 done
I've been working all evening on getting this large star block done. After reading all the instructions first I found out that there is a 3D element to it. I have done something similar to it before so I wanted to get stuck into it now... Well it's now 11.30pm and my block is done.
I love it... I think it has worked out ok... I'm not sure if I will add the extra border top and bottom. I might leave it a rectangle until I see what fits my size better.

November Patterns went out today!
The November patterns were emailed today. As a reminder, there will not be a row released in December.
Thanks so much to all of you for participating with me in this quest. You help me by testing the patterns so THANK YOU!
If I accidentally missed someone please send me an email.
My daughter's wedding is in December and I have made it through 1/4 of the school year and am settling in. I am so sorry for being slow to respond to emails and posting blocks. There are just not enough hours in the day. Please know that I appreciate all of you.
