I kept thinking I would get the row finished, but here it is the last day of the month and no go. So, here is my one little block... where does the time go?? And I am afraid it will get worse before the year is over!!

Marian's August Americana and Spring...

These are my Americana blocks for August

Still working on August Spring blocks, but I wanted to get posted with at least one block..

Sorry it's just been a really busy busy month for me.

Paula's blocks

Hello everyone.

There are my butterfly, flower and Sue blocks.
I still have to do some embellishments.

My Country Tweet, Tweet, Tweet (Tweets coming soon)

Just made it in the nick of time this month.
Waiting to determine what size I want to make the quilt before sewing the blocks together and appliqueing the birdies.  I had fun playing with Deana's great block pattern and fussy cutting a bandana print!

row 2

This is my compilation of row 2.  So far.  I haven't decided how long my rows will be.
SBS enjoying her peaceful garden with sunflowers (or pinwheels,  however you want to imagine them).

Finally . . .

It took a little extra time, but here are my stars.

They aren't perfect, but I'm pretty pleased with them.

One Bird House done

I am getting in under the wire on this block, but here is my one bird house block!  It was fun!

Saturday, August 29, 2015

I fixed up my house & figured out what I did wrong.  A learning experience.

Here are my three cute birdhouses!  They were a lot of fun to make.

Pam's Sunbonnet Sue Block

At least I got one block done before the deadline!  I am anxious to get the whole row done.
I like the flowers and butterflies!

Kris: Row 3 block

I finished my first birdhouse block.  This is such a cute little block.  I haven't quite decided what fabric to use for a bird, so it will have to wait a bit.  Love the block.

End of Summer Sue...

Here's Sunbonnet Sue in her flowery dress and bright scallop-brim hat, made by Nancy. Sue is a sharp dresser from all the blocks I've seen so far!

Frances mastered Sue...

Here is a photo of Frances' cute Sue blocks for the spring row quilt.

Americana QAL Row 3

Phew.  Each month gets busier.  I got my Row 3 done yesterday, all except stitching down the fused appliques and I have some star buttons too.  and I goofed.  I pulled out this lovely FQ for the background, and started creating the blocks --- remembered too late, need a half yard of background.  Oh well, it's done now.

and thank you for all those visual pics, Deanna, or I would never have made it thru this row.

Americana - Cathy - Row 3 Complete

Hi y'all!  Saturday, I worked on Row 3 for the Americana QAL   Here are the left facing birdhouses...

Americana QAL - Left Facing Birdhouses

And the right facing ones...

Americana QAL - Right Facing Birdhouses

Those of you that have been following me for a while know that I'm not much into applique'.  And Deana really does beautiful applique'.  But I just couldn't tackle it this weekend.  So I pulled a bird from Lorna's design for the Elephant Parade, and used it instead...

Americana QAL - Bird

All in all, I love this row.

Americana QAL Birdhouse Row

I love this row!  So sweet!  Can't wait for next month's installment.  Thanks Deana!

Spring Row Along - Row #2

I didn't do the Garden Sue blocks, I replaced them with 'garden paths' blocks... that's not what they're really called but they kind of remind me of a garden path.  Anyway... now that I've seen how cute the 'Sues' are I think I'm going to have to do one or two or three...

My version of Row #2... I still have some embroidery stitches to do and some applique.  I think I'm procrastinating... actually, I KNOW I'm procrastinating, my stitching and applique leave a lot to be desired :)   I DID do the paper piecing, so yay me!  LOL

Judi's Americana and Spring rows for month 2

So here are my birdhouses. Next week I will add my birds and a way in to their new homes:)

I don't know why the blog turned it this way, not how I took it. Sorry.  I also got row 2 done from last month. I did change up the hearts a bit. Hope you like them.

And now my Spring row! This row is adorable I think.

I did make 2 dragonflys instead of all butterflies. I will put the finishing touches on these soon also.

Alright! Bring on September:)

Dorine Finished August Row

So here are the last two blocks of the August row.  Now I can't wait for September 1!!!!

Susan: 4 Birdhouses

The birdhouses are finished. I have to put the row together, make the birds and the holes in the birdhouses, but at least the 4 needed for the row are done.
I'll work on details next week. =)

Bird house with bird!

I really enjoyed this little block! I may make more than one for my quilt because it's super cute!
But for now, this is the block!

Looking forward to next month block!!

Lynne S. finished a block in the spring row and the birdhouses row for Americana quilt.

Americana Birdhouses

I got my birdhouses all pieced - love them. They went together so easily.

I'm in love with hand applique at the moment, so I'll be doing the birds and door holes that way when I finish appliqueing the birds on my daughter's wedding quilt. I also want to hand stitch some lyrics and notes in there.

This one is my favorite:

Although, the Holly Hobby scraps are super fun, too.

A Sue block from Lyn M

Isn't the yo-yo flower cute?

Dorine's August block

I have finished one block on the August row.  It was a lot of work but really fun!  Looking forward to getting the whole row done!

I also grew some flowers in the window boxes on the July row.  The colorful flowers are hand embroidered, and the white ones are ribbon roses that are tacked on individually.

Spring Row . . . almost done

All three units are sewn and just need to be put together in a row. I'm working on embellishing the units before I do that. But I think I've met my commitment of getting this much done. Once I had help from Deana figuring out that I missed part of the correction email, everything went together the way it was meant to. Thanks for the extra help Deana.

Butterflies and Sunbonnet Sue

Well that was a little bit challenging. I'm not sure if I was not concentrating, cut the wrong sizes or just messed up but I had trouble making things fit.,I know it doesn't help when you are changing the width of the rows. I got there in the end.....
I prepared this row over a few days and I will be taking it with me to my NOTY quilt group for a day of hand stitching. Yep all ready to go and I got it finished....
I'm really happy with it.

Now I have to go and add to the houses row to match this width. I have made the quilts for on the line as well.....

Yeah! :) Americana Row 2 finally squared away

I had the hardest time figuring out what I wanted to use for my background on row 2 until my eye glanced across the tub holding some of my hubby's older Air Force uniforms. (I'm pulling all my stuff from stash, except that I did need to buy some red & white stripe fabric). His uniforms are PERFECT for this!

And yes, he knows I harvested a BDU shirt for this.  :)

Using that necessitated some adjusted construction strategies. First I needed to resolve the issue with poor value difference on the hearts. They just melted into the cammies. So I edged all the pieces with a taupe plaid. Second, that stuff is like sewing with duck cloth canvas almost, so I appliqued the hearts onto whole blocks rather than piecing background around them. I turned the edges under and blanket stitched them on. No need for stabilizer with BDUs as the background.

Now for the fun of bin-diving for bird house scraps! - I really do love that. Not so much the clean-up afterward. . .
