I think our main focus for this month was "ugly" or "not normally used" fabrics and embroidery. We also had to do some trouble shooting with a strange size: 5" wide very LONG strip. They all turned out beautiful, though!! Here are some numbers.
17 participants completed rule 3
2 participants posted teasers of rule 4 in Feb
2 participants used a heart (the Feb symbol) in their blocks because it was Feb.
"Not normally used fabric" was used as follows:
floral background, zig zags, velvet birdhouse opening, cut out melons-scarecrow-sunflowers, southwestern stripe as bird feathers,
unusual fabric in a nest, and gingham checked background behind embroidery.
Colors used that participatnts didn't favor included:
yellow, gold, red, pastels, orange, bright green, and hot pink.
Hand and machine Embroidery use:
gold vine, decorative lines through stars, wildwood rose, dutch girl, tea cups with fireweed, flowers and vines, fence, flag pole, grass, windows, door, blanket stitched hearts, blanket stitched flowers, 3-D tower with embroidery accent, road lines, bird nest, pine cones, African pottery, Bambi fawn, little scarecrows, decorative hearts, tree trunks, and quezal bird feathers.
I think that is a mouthful and quite a splendid variety.

This month threw me for a loop.......it is still sitting there, waiting for me to finish. Maybe next week, I think I finally know what I am going to do with those long strips :(
Ann Marie,
Sometimes we just hit brick walls and then they come down the longer we think about how to solve them. Way to hang in there.
I love how you put the stats up at the end of the month. Thanks for the update.
What a fun summary! We seem to all be learning, loving, and laughing as we go. Thanks again for all you do to make this mystery quilt happen!
I like the summaries also. This whole experience has been a fun and exciting challenge. I had now real clue as to what I was getting into. I am really glad that we have more than one rule per month. It's so hard to wait for the next rule. You would think I didn't have anything else to do. LOL
Thanks for doing this and putting so much thought and effort into it.
