Bird Block #6

Here is my block 6. As you can see, I did free motion piecing for the entire background. I love that technique. My house is pretty small as it is far in the background, but I got it in. I appliqued the swans with the needle turn technique I used on the fourth block. I could see the background behind the swan, so I took out some of the stitches and put in some batting. I like the puffed up look, so it was serendipitous. I machine embroidered the details.

Here is the block added to the rest of the quilt. Can't wait for the next block!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE your swan and her little babies. You really did go to town with the free motion piecing. It is such a fun and addicting technique! Also, I think you were so clever with your choice of fabric for the trees and little house.

Wonderful addition to your mystery project!!

The swan is beautiful. Nice job. I like the way the sky extends up in the block with the other bird in it.

WOWS, it is gorgeous!! I love your free motion lines. The swan and her babies are so neat, and I love putting batting behind the applique. It makes that added dimension.
We are in Gig Harbor. 2 days with sun. Amazing. Rain all across OR & WA as we drove up on Fri. Hit the road again in the am to come home. I will be adding pix to my personal blog on Tues.

I love your swans and also the way you worked in the free motion curves. I wondered how you would incorporate a building other than a birdhouse into your theme, and you did it beautifully. Your block is wonderful, and works so well with the rest of your quilt. The fabric you chose works so well with your theme.
